Export Data from Salesforce

How to export data from the Salesforce platform

  1. Log into the Salesforce Platform
  2. Click on the settings gear icon on the top right-hand side, and click 'Setup'
  3. Under the left-hand navigation, scroll down to 'Data' and then 'Data Export'
  4. Select your choice 'Export Now' or 'Schedule Export'

  5. Export service page In the "Export File Encoding" dropdown change to "Unicode (UTF-8)" This will ensure that if you have non-Latin characters (Chinese or Japanese for example) in your data it will be properly exported

*The files will be emailed to the email address you are logged in under, and also available on this page for 48 hours, after which time they are deleted.

What to expect on export?

  • You will receive a Zip file(s), which you can then open to find CSVs
  • CSVs will include but are not limited to:
    • Objects: Leads, Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities, Cases, plus Custom Objects etc.
    • Activities: Tasks, Notes, Calls, Meetings, Emails
    • Relationships: ContactRole, ContactOpportunityRole etc
    • Users: Salesforce Internal Users with Name, emails, permissions, role type etc.
    • Record Type IDs: Standard feature across objects
  • Expect 100-700 CSVs (rough estimate based on usage)
  • Note this will only export data, this will not export files. Files export must be done via the API and requires an H&D developer
